Case Study Engineering

A UK foothold through acquisition
The situation. Our client is a large international engineering consultancy working across water, construction and infrastructure, with a strong reputation. The UK market for this work runs on long-standing relationships with local authorities, and those aren’t easily built from outside which is exactly where the client was stuck.
What we did. Our M&A advisor identified a small number of local companies already active in the right segment. On the client’s behalf, we opened negotiations and supported the acquisition of one of them as a foothold. From there, one of our project managers took over the integration of the new subsidiary into the group, worked to build direct relationships with the local authorities, and secured the approvals needed to operate. Two prestigious projects followed in major cities, delivered with a mix of local staff and the client’s own international expertise.
The result. The acquisition took nine months; the integration that followed ran for a further two years. The client now has a genuine UK presence, with room to grow into related services and adjacent segments.
